Getting to Know Mr. Harris

Welcome back to the start of another school year! I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students in my class and their families. I love teaching and seek to treat the school community as an extension of my own family. I am very excited about this new year and all the great memories that await us as a classroom. This is my twenty fourth year in education and in those years I have had the privilege of serving as an elementary teacher, middle school assistant principal, and an elementary principal. I spent most of my teaching years in the fifth grade but I have also taught first, second, third and fourth grades. In a previous school district I also enjoy coaching elementary girls’ volleyball, elementary boys’ basketball, and assisting at the varsity level for girls’ volleyball. I would like to take a moment and introduce you to my family
My personal life during the school year is pretty much wrapped up in what is going on at school. But, in the summer I enjoy being outside working in the yard, playing a round of golf when I can, and spending time on our boat when the weather cooperates. I also very much enjoy my involvement with the kids program and other activities at our church.

This is a picture of all the girls in the Harris family. Our oldest daughter is Cera. She graduated from Aveda Cosmetology School in Orlando Florida and is currently attending Valencia College in the Orlando area. She works for both a local restaurant and at Walt Disney World. Yes, we do take advantage of her working at Disney (smile).
The boys in the family include Mike who is a senior in high school this year. He enjoys inventing things and participating in his school’s robotics team which is made up of over one hundred students. Marc is a freshman in high school and he enjoys playing his saxophone in the high school marching band and jazz band. He also participates in theater productions at school.

Alaina is a third grade student at Jackman Road Elementary and enjoys dance, golf, gymnastic and Girl Scouts. This summer Alaina participated in the PGA and USGA National Drive Chip and Putt competition in Chicago, Illinois and took second place in her age division. She also enjoys participating in all of the activities of our kids program at church.
My wife Cherri is an account manager and underwriter for the Michigan Insurance Company. She enjoys being an assistant Brownie Troop leader at Alaina’s school as well as being actively involved in her local, state, and national insurance association. Cherri also helps out with the kids program at church and is the one who hold the Harris family all together!
Oh, I almost forgot the last member of the Harris family. Her name is Lydia. She generally likes barking at anything that moves and sniffing at anything that comes within two feet of her body.

I am very thankful for my family and for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s life. I am committed to doing my very best to see your child succeed as we make this journey through the school year.
