Arrival:

Good morning class, I am so excited for this first day of school and for this journey we are about to take during this school year. Once you arrive make sure you do the following before you begin your morning work: *Make sure all locker items are put away and your locker is closed
*Say good morning to Mr. Harris and give him any communication from home
*Sharpen pencils and make sure your desk is organized and materials are ready for the day

*Make your lunch selection

Daily Announcements:

*Find your name tag on your desk and begin putting school supplies in your desk

*Place common classroom supplies on the table I have provided

*When office announcements begin please find your seat and listen quietly to announcements

*After office announcements meet Mr. Harris on the carpet

Morning Work Options before Our Class Meeting:

*You may shop for new books from our class selection or use a library pass to go to the Media Center

*Silent Read

*Take an A.R. Test

*Practice Math Facts

*Work on Your Current Writing Project

Class Meeting:

Please be seated at your spot on the carpet ready to start morning meeting at 9:35am

School - Home Communication

Communication between home and school is so very important to the success of your child. I count it a privilege to work with your child and appreciate you taking the time to visit our class blog. The purpose of this blog is to provide 24/7 access to information that will keep you up-to-date in the happenings of our classroom and provide you will information that will be helpful to you as a parent. It is a connection between you, your children, and me. As a parent I have always appreciated teachers who communicated well with parents. It seemed to help make the school year smoother but it also helped me feel that I was part of what was going on with my child at school.

Here are Some Helpful Suggestions Regarding Communication:

Notes to the Teacher:
There are times when a quick handwritten note regarding student dismissal or a note to let me know your child didn’t sleep well due to allergies etc. is more convenient than an email communication. I greet each student as they come into the classroom each morning. Please make sure your child hands me any personal communication to me as they come into class. This way I can make sure attention is given to your communication. There are times when a student will leave a note from you in their book bag and forget to give it to me. For this reason I encourage you that if your note is in relation to a change in how they are to go home then I would ask that you also call the office towards the end of the day and the office will also make sure your directions are delivered to me.

Email:
If you have quick communication to me that really doesn't require a response you can use my email. Examples might be a change in pick up or a note to let me know you child came to school but isn't feeling well. Try to email these as early in the day as possible. I will respond to those emails with "Thank you for the information." If you don't get a response and it had something to do with end of day dismissal then please make sure you call the school office and they will make sure I get your message. Phone Call:
If you have information you want to give to me but it would be too much to convey in an email then by all means give me a call and leave me a message with a number where I can reach you. If it is something that I think would be better handled with a conference then I will let you know when I return your call. My voice mail phone number is 734-850-9999.

Conference Request:
As a parent myself, I realize that there are some things that come up during the year that would be better handled with a meeting. Normally after school is good for me but please check with me the day before so I can let you know if I have a conflict the day you want to get together. If you cannot stop by after school because of your work schedule then leave me a voice mail with the time you get off work and I can arrange to stay as late as I need after school. I will give you a call back and we can set something up. My voice mail phone number is 734-850-9999.

Many communication items will hopefully be addressed in this classroom blog but certainly the other forms of communication mentioned above have their place as well.
